BRONZE

Dan Karlok and Liz live in New Jersey, USA. He was 48 when he was diagnosed on November 10, 2008. His initial PSA was 3.9 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6 and he was staged T1c. He is undecided as to his choice of treatment was . Here is his story.

I am new to this; I just found out four days ago. I know my story is not all that different from a lot of other men. I went from being a very healthy 47 year old man to my doctor saying; "Hmm, your PSA is slightly elevated, better to be safe than sorry you better have it checked."

Well, now my world has been turned upside down. I've been researching sites left and right on the computer and trying to calm myself down. I appreciate a site like this. I could really use the support right about now.

It's been amazing to get all of this support from a bunch of "strangers". I cannot thank everyone enough for the wonderful emails and the phone calls. It's really meant a lot to me. Thank you all for helping me get through these first few rough weeks.

It's been almost 3 weeks since my diagnosis. I feel like I'm definitely going to go the LR surgery route. I've met with Dr. Kim at the Cancer Center in NJ and with Dr. Guillenneau in NYC. I have one more app't with Dr. Tewari next week and from there I'll decide which one. That's the hardest part now; to decide which doctor to do the surgery. I feel like I want to do it soon; get it out of the way and get on with my life.

Still nervous, but feeling a little less anxious than before.
