Greg Snickersonbirch and Melodee live in Illinois,
USA. He was 46 when he was diagnosed on January 12 2006. His initial PSA was 7.70
ng/ml and his Gleason Score was 3+4=7. He was staged T1c and his choice of treatment
was Laporascopic prostatectomy. Here is his story:
Had
surgery in March of 06 at Barnes with Dr. Andriole. Now at 6 months and PSA level
is still undetectable.
Will
have additional tests this week. Still waiting for nerves damage to heal but fully
continent for past 4 months.
Just
at 8 months now and the PSA results are coming back as less than 0.1 ng/ml which
I understand to be nondetectable.
I
am still awaiting a positive response to the nerve damage and had hoped that by
now I would have seen some positive progression. While that is disappointing I
also realize that it may take up to another year for things to heal. By the way
I have had several nerves damaged in the past and have always been slow to heal,
even at a younger age, so my expierience should not be used as average in this
regard.
All
in all I am satified at this point with simply knowing that the current tests
indicate I am rid of it. Another 6 1/2 years to being considered cured is a long
time. I am deeply disappointed by the Red Cross refusing to allow me to dontate
blood. I think they are being overly cautious due to mistakes in the past.
I
will update as things change.
PSA
became detectable again in January 2007. Had 7 weeks of radiation which went well.
Have now been clean for 6 months.
